“If cats could talk, they wouldn’t.” — Nan Porter

Cats are delightful animals. No matter how insensitive they may be perceived, these felines are truly emotional beings. Of course, they can not talk like us. However, they have other ways of bonding with us.

Your cat has been doing certain acts lately, and you are at a loss to understand your cat’s behavior. What would your response be as a pet parent trying to understand their child’s needs? Will you shrug it off or try to communicate with your cat effectively? With approximately 95.6 million cats in US households in 2017, learning more about our pet friends’ communication styles is natural. Let us take a look at the most common habits of our feline family members:

1. Cat Kneading:

Cat kneading, or making biscuits, is the ultimate sign of affection by a cat. When a cat presses its paws in a massage-like manner on soft surfaces or into you, it is simply claiming its territory by leaving its scent on such objects and you!

Congratulations! Your cat approves of you, but getting its sharp claws dug inside can be painful. Keeping its claws trimmed can help you stay out of harm’s way. Placing a blanket in between also helps. Similarly, a cat makes biscuits before napping in its favorite resting place. This action translates to “my favorite.”

2. Cat Purring:

This cat behavior can be tricky. It may be a sign of distress, or it may be a display of contentment. If your cat makes low, gentle, vibrational hum sounds when stroked, it is a sign that it is relaxed and happy. Other times, she might be telling you about discomfort or injury. Scientists believe that a cat’s purring has healing powers as it promotes bone health, injury healing, and pain relief.

Every cat responds differently, so pay close attention to how your cat talks to you.

3. Cat Slow Blinking:

Aww! Did your fur baby squint her eyes at you? You can’t help yourself but wonder what it means. Most cat owners observe their cats wink or blink their eyes lazily at them. This action is a common practice carried out by cats; it represents that your cat trusts you wholeheartedly and feels safe around you.

This action demonstrates that a cat is not afraid to be vulnerable around you and wants to let you know how she feels about your presence. This gesture can mean “I love you!” in kitty language.

4. Cat Headbunting:

The act of a cat rubbing its body and face against yours is a welcoming gesture. Your cat considers you a worthy member of their family. They leave their pheromones or scent on you to let other cats or human beings know that this person is under a cat’s protection! It is the absolute stamp of a cat’s love for its owner.

Conclusion:

Cats are beautiful emotional creatures, but unfortunately they are often misunderstood. To understand their psychology better, it is necessary to know the meaning behind each of their actions and communication styles. We can strengthen the bond with our pet members by decoding their love language without forcing our own on them. It takes a little nudge in the right direction to know and enjoy the company of our pet friends.
